| Affectionately regarded in the legend and lore of Buddhism, the popularity of the ox herding pictures has derived, in part, from their usefulness. Anyone interested in Zen is likely familiar with this series of ink and brush pictures which, providing a symbolic model, depict the story of a herdsman taming an unruly ox. It is significant that this superb simile of the dynamics of meditation practice - were the ox stands for the mind and the herdsman for the person engaged in meditation - goes back to very ancient and 'pre Zen' times. This uniquely attractive presentation of the ox herding pictures includes not only all the traditionally associated prefaces and poems but also a CD containing ten brief piano compositions - one for each picture - performed and recorded by the composer, and includes an original historical introduction. $25.00 Contact us directly to inquire |

| This soft cover book was published by Pleasant Street Books. It is fully illustrated with original clay bas reliefs in the style of ancient Mesopotamian illustration. (The illustrator, Don Denton, has learned to create authentically within an ancient style - I know of no parallel achievement). The text, by Sonny Saul, is not a fresh translation but represents a narrative version which leaves out nothing and adds nothing. It achieves the difficult task of making comprehensible the wold's most ancient story and presents it, in a most accessible and beautiful format. Included is a brief historical note by the author. The book was orignally published in an expensive and very limited hard cover edition which has sold out. This affordable version is $15.00 Contact us directly to inquire |
